Waterjel contains 96% purified water and Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a clinically precise formulation designed to cool the burn while reducing the potential for further contamination.

When skin is burned it loses its protective barrier, dries out and becomes vulnerable. Topical HA helps recreate many of the skin’s natural conditions, particularly when the body’s HA reserves are overwhelmed by injury, including maintaining a moist wound environment, modulating inflammation and reducing time to wound closure3. Simply put, HA hydrogels have stronger and more consistent evidence for accelerating burn healing, improving epithelialization, and supporting dermal regeneration – targeting all phases of burn healing, not just infection control.

Unlike many burn treatments, Waterjel is intentionally made without Tea Tree Oil, which poses a risk of contact dermatitis, burning, or delayed healing if improperly diluted. It is not recommended on large TBSA burns or in children without medical supervision. A systematic review reported side effects in up to 60% of trials, though mostly mild.⁴

Additionally, the European Chemicals Agency’s (ECHA) Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC) adopted an opinion classifying tea tree oil as Reproductive Toxicity Category 2 (Repr. 2) under the EU CLP Regulation. It is a known skin irritant and can lead to skin sensitization.

Waterjel was one of the first brands to discontinue the use of Tea Tree Oil, starting in 2014.

My oldest daughter came to visit and was taking a hot dish out of the oven. The dish slipped and the piping hot food splashed across her hand, causing a very painful burn. I quickly tore a package open, applied it to her hand, and left the dressing on for close to an hour. Not only did it give her instant cooling relief, but the burn didn't even blister!! I was utterly amazed!  As hot as the dish was, I would have expected a second degree burn!!
