Principal – IT Project Management Job Summary This is the highest role in the project management function within IT, accountable for overseeing the strategic leadership, planning, and program management of corporate information technology (IT) initiatives. The primary purpose of the role is to lead, oversee and ensure the successful delivery and management of single or multiple projects within scope, quality, time, and cost constraints that may be clearly defined or may require dynamic change management. This will include partnering with department teams on setting innovative IT agendas that help achieve Safeguard’s goals, improve KPIs, and increase the overall level of value received from technology services. As a key member of the senior IT leadership team reporting to the CIO, this role contributes to the development and execution of the enterprise-wide IT strategy and is responsible for ensuring on time, on-budget, on-expectations project delivery from IT and our business partners to deliver compelling business value. This position will also drive the Project Portfolio Management process across Safeguard, with demand intake, project prioritization, project & portfolio reporting, and integrated RAID Log tracking to focus & optimize resource interdependencies. This is a direct customer-facing role and requires frequent use of audio and video technology to engage with users at all functional levels around the globe. Essential Job Functions Collaborates with the CIO to set the mission, vision, and strategy of the IT organization to maximize the success of business & enterprise IT projects, and ongoing M&A integrations – by leading with cloud-first, scalable, and partner-driven execution. Identify and schedule project deliverables, milestones, and required activities and tasks. Provide leadership and motivation to project team members throughout the project life cycle and confer with project staff to outline work plan. Review project proposals or plans to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing projects, staffing requirements and allotment of available departmental resources to various project phases. Analyze project proposals to determine time frame, funding limitations and appropriate process for accomplishing projects. Review/approve work plan of external service provider or consultancy contracted to execute project. Implement project communication plan. Conduct risk assessment and mitigation. Monitor project activities, ensuring the currency, quality, and integrity of the information, while providing consistency in content and “look and feel” across the enterprise. Ensure that project goals are accomplished and in line with business objectives. Assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority to project personnel. Drive RACI clarity. Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within budget. Review status reports prepared by project personnel and modify schedules or plans as required. Establish standards and procedures for project reporting and documentation. Continuously benchmark project management performance to identify improvements and achieve higher capability maturity in project and portfolio management. Qualifications Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information systems, business administration, related field, or equivalent work experience Eight or more years of experience in IT or business/industry Three or more years of leadership responsibilities, including strategy, budgeting, and staffing and/or vendor management Demonstrated experience of influencing key stakeholders across the organization and within complex contexts Preferably proven experience or demonstrated capability in leading IT transformational initiatives in complex, dynamic environments where agile was applied at scale Competencies Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to develop and communicate a project management vision that inspires and motivates staff and aligns with the IT and business strategy Effective influencing and negotiation skills in an environment where resources required for success may not be in direct control of this role Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, strategic planning, and execution skills Strong business acumen, including industry, domain-specific knowledge of the enterprise and its business units Ability to build consensus, making decisions based on many variables, and gain support for major initiatives. Strong sense of self, ethics, and effort, as well as the willingness to go the extra mile to achieve important goals Ability to develop staff including coaching, mentoring and performance management Expertise in budget planning and financial management, preferably with show back and/or chargeback models Knowledge of Lean Startup, as well as other working practices (e.g., Scrum, Agile, 6-Sigma, Lean, etc.) Physical Requirements Performing the duties of this job regularly involves sitting, standing, walking, hearing/listening, repetitive hand movement, grasping, reaching, lifting, carrying, bending/stooping, kneeling/crawling, and vision requirements – close vision, adjust focus, color code.
